Business and technology, what’s to change in 2018?

For years, technology has surrounded our lives, changing our habits, our way of thinking and living in both our professional and personal life.

Many businesses in Italy and overseas have made research in technology their main goal in order to bolster their future activity and move with the times.

In this article, we previously spoke about some of the applications of artificial intelligence, but here we will delve into the development of businesses in 2018.

According to a study published by Forbes, 38% of businesses used artificial intelligence systems in 2016. However, it estimates that this figure will jump up to 62% over the course of 2018. The IDC (International Data Corporation) also predicts market growth from 8 billion dollars in 2016 to over 47 billion in 2020. This means the trend for the year just beginning will be constant growth in professional technological investments.

Artificial technologies: which ones will dominate 2018?

One of the trends that will continue to evolve over this year undoubtedly lies in the linguistic sphere. A machine, or software, can process information in a detailed way that is more precise than a human brain. For this task, there are applications that deal with creating natural language, for example, in customer service.

Machine learning is another highly important field, a branch of artificial intelligence that allows a machine to store information quickly and turn it into results. The sectors using this kind of application are extremely varied: they vary from major distribution to market analysis.

Biometrics also has its part to play in market research. It measures and analyses the physical aspects of the structure and shape of the body and behaviour.

Deep Learning, on the other hand, refers to an ensemble of algorithms that use artificial neural networks for multi-level learning. It can range from the automated recognition of a voice, to characters, even to images.

However, Industry 4.0 also requires the automisation of physical processes in environments with a strict need to speed up processes to the max, or where it would be too dangerous for a human being to take over. It is estimated that the automisation of industrial processes will occur with increasing frequency in 2018, continuing the trend of the years to come.
