Ericsson’s IoT Accelerator, which was presented in Italy, is an innovative combination for the Internet of Things sector, for professional services and for supporting new collaborative projects between different companies. We look at how it will develop, both in terms of its cost expectations and impact but also in the interests of simplification and acceleration.
IoT Accelerator: horizontal platforms combined together
It was also presented in Italy during the M2M Forum in Milan and is a horizontal platform for the Internet of Things, professional services and a marketplace for new collaborative projects between companies operating in different sectors (public safety, services, transport and smart cities). Launched by Ericsson, the IoT Accelerator has a scope of features which includes the largest data and device management sector, connectivity, analysis and billing services. The accelerator will use the Ericsson Cloud System to support the implementation of hybrid clouds in compliance with sovereign data and security requirements.
Cost and impact expectations
In terms of the cost factor and the concrete value that IoT will bring and represent for the company, the question of its impact and prospects over the coming years will naturally come into play. In this sense, as you can read on Ericsson’s website, a recent study conducted by Gartner predicts that the accelerator will be able to create added value in excess of 1.9 trillion US dollars by 2020.
Simpler and faster methods
What methods will actually be used to approach the programme? According to Orvar Hurting, head of Ericsson’s industry and society “We will concentrate initially on clients who are concerned with public safety, utilities, transport and smart city, continuously conforming to their needs and improving the ease of use and speed of implementation through a DevOps approach for the development of the software” as reported onictbusiness.it Furthermore, in order to avoid substantial upfront investments and to make the project even speedier and less complex, the company will provide solutions and services in the “as a service” mode.
