“Reinforcing links between Italy and Africa”, Director Mistretta says

“Reinforcing links between Italy and Africa, also thanks to the many contacts gathered in the continent in the last few years”, so did Giuseppe Mistretta start in his new role as central director for the sub-Saharan countries at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, hired recently.

With a diplomatic career that spans more than 20 years in different countries on the continent, and after having filled the position of ambassador, first in Angola and then in Ethiopia, in his new role of central director Mr Mistretta wants to try and maintain the numerous relationships developed in particular in Addis Ababa with international organisations with offices in the Ethiopian capital, such as the African Union, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the Intergovernative Authority on Development (IGAD).

“Africa is now on the front pages of all newspapers.” Mr Mistretta continued on occasion of a business forum dedicated to Ethiopia organised in Rome by Confindustria Assafrica & Mediterraneo. “It has not always been so and, I believe, it is not only so because of legal reasons linked to migratory phenomena but also because of the development taking place in Africa, for the development of our businesses and our common growth.”
